SteveAoki took to social media today to reveal a piece of incredibly exciting news regarding the upcoming live action Ghost in the Shell film, set to hit theaters on March 31. According to a minute-long video trailer uploaded by the movie’s official Twitter account, he was given the opportunity to remix the main theme from the 1995 anime, flipping the iconic song into a heavy, electro-fused heater.
On his post, Aoki credited the original series as a substantial source of inspiration for his love of science fiction and even his Neon Future album series.
“This is a big day for me. Especially for teenage youth me when I first watched the anime Ghost In The Shell that planted the seeds for my imagination and obsession for Sci fi android life AI singularity and later the blueprints towards my Neon Future ideology.”
The remix features wide, pounding percussion, growling electro hisses and the chorus of Eastern singers from the original. The result is a flip that matches the new film’s updated aesthetic while still reserving plenty of space for its origins.

The name JonSudano is one that’s taken the Internet by storm over the past few months for his hysterical and meme-friendly covers of popular pop music song using the lyrics from Smash Mouth’s classic song “All Star” in place of the original track’s vocals. The addition of his iconic neck beard and sincerely pleasant singing voice only add to the comedy, making the experience of watching his videos feel like you’re a member of high society meme culture.
Sudano’s latest cover came this week, replacing the vocals from TheChainsmokers‘ “Closer” with his own Smash Mouth rendition. With perfect tuning and expertly tailored vocal chops, his passionate eyes-shut crooner is an instant classic.
Listen to the hilarity below, and hear “Closer” in the way it was always meant to be sung.
Earlier this week, TheChainsmokers teamed up with Coldplay to release their newest single ahead of their debut album Memories… Do Not Open. “Something Just Like This” sees Coldplay frontman Chris Martin’s iconic vocals above a crisp Chainsmokers production arrangement, complete with future pop synths and an inescapable rhythm. Now, the tune has received a flip from young Dutch producer BeauCollins, throwing the original components into a highly energized, futuristic atmosphere.
The remix begins with the original’s vocals left relatively untouched above a warming series of chords and sub. A distant snare leads the song upwards towards the drop, where the initial melody is exchanged for a simple but powerful array of spectrum-wide, percussive tones that match up perfectly with the light hi hats and ambience.
This time of year is a busy one for Deadmau5, as the Canadian powerhouse finds himself occupied with album releases, tour preparations and more. TheChainsmokers have been the butt of criticism this week, following the release of their newest single with Coldplay “Something Just Like This.” A writer for Your EDM wrote in an opinion piece on Wednesday that the track’s “synth used to lead for the pop-drop in ‘Something Just Like This’ is virtually indistinguishable from that used in ‘Roses.’” Regardless of the songs’ similarities, the duo has received another whirlwind of attention from members of the media and beyond. Surprisingly, that list also included none other than Deadmau5.
In an Instagram photo posted on Friday afternoon, Deadmau5’s laptop can be seen sitting atop a massive studio mixing board. His description points a finger directly at The Chainsmokers:
“Hey EDM! check out my new laptop stand… @thechainsmokers where do I plug in the aux cord so I can make sick beets like you.”
Apparently, Deadmau5 is calling the pair out for failing to produce their tracks with the complexity and sophistication that a quality studio board would facilitate. His jab comes as only one of many received by The Chainsmokers this week, and it wasn’t his first shot at the incredibly popular duo.

Galantis, one of the most acclaimed duos in EDM, have just released their latest remix, this time in the form of a buttery remix of singer Ed Sheeran‘s “Shape of You.” Featuring a instantly recognizable melody and expert vocal chops, the flip sees a completely new and enjoyable exploration of the original track.
It begins with bouncy synth plucks and Sheeran’s vocals as the track’s percussion slowly accumulates in the back. A clap series carries the track up to its drop, where high-pitched whistles and glassy future bass ripples take over the space. After a short break, the energy rises once more, dropping off in a hi hat-spattered iteration of the first drop. During the third pass, the main melody is traded for a fast, stuttering iteration of the future synths from earlier.
Additionally, Galantis have revealed their next single to be titled “Rich Boy,” which will come out next Friday. Check out the preview below.
A short video was posted to Twitter on Saturday that revealed a brief audio segment of an upcoming collaboration between Zedd and Canadian singer AlessiaCara, “Stay.” Featuring a infectious vocal loop and some haunting atmospheric tones, the clip is likely taken from the track’s introduction before some sort of build and drop combination takes place.
A release date of February 24 is given for “Stay,” churning up excitement and speculation within the two’s respective fan bases. Whether or not Alessia Cara will share the stage with Zedd during his April ACLU benefit concert is yet to be seen.
Alessia Cara was recently featured on Saturday Night Live and Jimmy Fallon, where she showed off her unmatched vocal prowess and impersonation abilities to a national audience. The video teaser below was taken from a commerical during SNL that revealed the collab.
Earlier this week, Beyonce took to her Instagram page to upload a photo of herself and her newly revealed pregnancy. The post’s description indicated that she will be having twins with her longtime husband Jay-Z.
Judging from the already noticeable belly bump, it is likely that Beyonce is already well into her pregnancy, leading many to circulate rumors that her April spot at the top of Coachella’s headlining list might be in jeopardy. With less than three months until her slotted performances in Indio, California, worries have sprung up among attendees and Goldenvoice organizers alike.
According to several reports, Goldenvoice was not informed of Beyonce’s pregnancy ahead of her Instagram post. Despite one unnamed source’s statement that Beyonce will be going ahead with the Coachella performances she promised, the time for the festival organizers to begin looking for possible replacements is now upon them.
With fellow headliners Radiohead and Kendrick Lamar already penned in, no one can tell which artist might be reached out to for a Beyonce replacement set. Whether Goldenvoice might opt for a similar hip hop/R&B alternative, or go the other direction with a legend from the rock or electronic realms, is yet to be seen.
Regardless, for the time being, attendees are left with Beyonce’s word that her Coachella performances will not be affected by her pregnancy.
