If you look on Facebook this morning – hell, the Internet – all you see is an outpouring of love for the iconic artist David Bowie. The man redefined musicality over the course of his career, and his legacy is one that will not soon be forgotten.
Music icons around the world mourn his loss, paying tribute to him in their own personal ways.
I’m all about safety in raving and in life. I wasn’t a sheltered child by any means, but my house was always stocked with the necessary medical supplies like antiseptics and bandages.
Now that I’m older, I have to worry about a different kind of safety.
According to AIDS.gov, “CDC estimates that 1,201,100 persons aged 13 years and older are living with HIV infection, including 168,300 (14%) who are unaware of their infection. Over the past decade, the number of people living with HIV has increased, while the annual number of new HIV infections has remained relatively stable. Still, the pace of new infections continues at far too high a level— particularly among certain groups.”
It’s a growing issue that has flown relatively under the raider since the AIDS scares of the late-90s, but it’s still well above manageable levels. With a little support, the millennial generation could be the one to break the cycle, and DJs want to help.
Steve Aoki, The Chainsmokers, A-Trak, Fedde Le Grand, 3LAU and Dirty South have all teamed up with LifeBeat.org to raise awareness about HIV and help prevent the spread. It’s as simple as practicing safe sex with a condom.
Released via 6K (Armada), the young, up and coming artist Ryan Landis, aka Landis, dropped his take on the single ‘Dive’ originally produced by Hope, Hot Mouth, and Nezzo. Based in the party-central city of Miami, FL, Landis layered a hard-hitting dance beat into the track, with more intense build ups and drops than the original which was released late last year. Supported by world-renowned artists such as Hardwell, Fedde Le Grand, and Showtek, we expect nothing but big things from Landis’ growing electronic career. Listen to the new remix below –
By anyone’s standards, 2013 was a great year for electronic music. Heavy hitters like Avicii and Calvin Harris went mainstream, show attendance swelled, and everyone in the industry raked in the $$$. For some, it was a better than good year – it was their ‘breakthrough year’ where they were vaulted into being top billed talent at the major shows – sometimes pulling more fans than other longtimers and household names. We like to give praise where it is due. So whether it was amazing management, great PR, perfect production skills, or just really mindblowingly good luck, congratulations to all these producers for killing it in 2013.
