Sequel To Tron: Legacy Reportedly In Very Early Stages Of Development

It’s been reported by The Hollywood Reporter that a spiritual sequel to 2010’s Tron: Legacy is in the very early stages of development. And by “very early” we mean zygomatic.

The plug was pulled on a 2015 version of the film, but now it seems that there’s a chance to revive the franchise with the help of Jared Leto and Justin Springer, who co-produced Tron: Legacy and exec produced the Tom Cruise sci-fi movie Oblivion.

This news comes just a matter of days after Joseph Kosinski, director of Tron: Legacy and Oblivionspoke with Collider during a Q&A following a recent IMAX screening of Legacy. Verge writes, “He noted that the long-gestating Tron 3 was in ‘cryogenic freeze,’ but that it wasn’t dead, just ‘just sitting for the right time to move forward with it.’”

The Hollywood Reporters sources say that this potential new film won’t be a direct sequel to Tron: Legacy. Instead, it will be “built out of the source code of the deleted Tron 3 script,” with Leto playing a character from that screenplay named Ares.

That time seems to be now. Tron: Legacy made $400 million after its release, enough to warrant a sequel, but the 2015 film was shut down after a series of “shutdowns and restarts.”

The question for us now is whether Daft Punk will return to score it.

Lady Gaga Will Replace Beyoncé At Coachella

According to sources close to Billboard, Lady Gaga will replace Beyoncé both weekends on the polo fields. These sources say that Coachella and AEG are finalizing plans to bring Lady Gaga’s stage production to the festival and will make the official announcement in a matter of days.

This comes at odds with a previous rumor that Rihanna and Chance The Rapper would co-headline the festival both weekends, as well as a rumor having to do with a possible Spring Tour from Daft Punk.

In a previous article on betting odds, Lady Gaga was listed fourth most likely to replace Beyonce, with 7:1 odds on her – so pretty spot on. Gaga’s Joanne World Tour kicks off Aug. 1 at Rogers Arena in Vancouver, B.C., and includes three nights at the Forum in Los Angeles as well as stops at iconic stadiums like Wrigley Field in Chicago, Citi Field in New York and Fenway Park in Boston.

REPORT: Source Claims Daft Punk Is Embarking On Spring Tour

Breaking news from an unexpected source: Playboy has just allegedly confirmed via an anonymous source on Daft Punk‘s production team that the notoriously elusive French electronic duo is embarking on a Spring tour. This could certainly be the Alive 2017 news that fans have been eagerly waiting for.

“An anonymous source working on Daft Punk’s production has confirmed to Playboy that the Robots are planning a major—and we do mean major—tour this spring.”

While we won’t hold our breath to see if this plays out how we hope, this certainly adds credence to their 3:1 odds of headlining Coachella as replacement for Beyonce.

This news, of course, comes on the heels of their return to live performing at this years’ GRAMMY Awards alongside The Weeknd. Relive their 3-year awaited return to the stage right here, and enjoy their legendary 2006 Coachella performance below.

Rihanna & Chance The Rapper Reportedly To Replace Beyoncé At Coachella

With the news that Beyoncé is no longer performing at Coachella, fans have been clamoring to find out who her replacement would be. Various guesses have been flung about, with even betting odds being created around it (because you can always bet on something).

One user on reddit claims to have gotten an inside scoop from an affiliated industry professional, and says that Rihanna and Chance The Rapper will combine to fill Beyoncé’s coveted headlining spot.

Got News that RIHANNA and CHANCE are to replace Beyonce. from Coachella

As of now, this is obviously unconfirmed. But with Chance cleaning house at the GRAMMYs, and Rihanna filling in the void for Beyonce fans, it’s definitely not unreasonable. However, there have also been some Nine Inch Nails and Frank Ocean rumors, and even a Justin Timberlake rumor. Lest we forget Daft Punk, too…

Daft Punk Have 3:1 Odds Of Headlining Coachella In Beyonce’s Stead

After the announcement yesterday that Beyonce would not be performing at Coachella this year, the rumor began spinning at full force to try and figure out who would be taking her place. Guesses ranging from Daft Punk to Chance The Rapper have been dominating news feeds over the past 24 hours. Now, UK betting company Betfair has released odds on who will take over.

Stemming from the bevy of rumors surrounding their return, Daft Punk are clear favorites to take over, despite them not having been booked in the first place. Their last run at Coachella was actually in 2006, despite their live album being titled Alive 2007. It would still make sense for them to make an appearance, though.

Naomi Totten, a spokesperson for Betfair, said: “Rumours have been circulating about a tour for Daft Punk and what a spectacular way to kick off their revival than by headlining Coachella. With Beyoncé now officially very pregnant, she has had to rule herself out of the April festival and so all attention is now focused on who will be wowing the crowds in her absence.

Kanye West has been out of the spotlight since cancelling his ‘Saint Pablo’ tour last year and is likely itching for a comeback, the rapper is 7/1 joint second favourite with Lady Gaga who absolutely smashed her Super Bowl performance early in February. Beyoncé most famous fan girl Adele is also in the running at 50/1 but has always made it clear she isn’t keen on playing big festivals, so may be a nice fit but would be a surprising addition to the line-up.”

See the Betfair odds below.

Daft Punk 3/1
Jay Z 5/1
Kanye West 7/1
Lady Gaga 7/1
Green Day 15/2
The Weeknd 10/1
Rihanna 10/1
Bruno Mars 12/1
Katy Perry 12/1
Frank Ocean 12/1
Chainsmokers 12/1
Ed Sheeran 16/1
Taylor Swift 18/1
Justice 18/1
Drake 20/1
Coldplay 25/1
Solange 25/1
Clean Bandit 25/1
Dua Lipa 25/1
Rag ‘n’ Bone Man 33/1
Kygo 33/1
Zayn 33/1
Justin Bieber 50/1
Maroon 5 50/1
Robin Schulz 50/1
Martin Garrix 50/1
Ariana Grande 50/1

Coachella Announces Beyoncé Will Not Perform At Festival

We all knew this was coming in the back of our minds.

Coachella has just announced that, at the advice of her doctors, Beyoncé will not be performing at Coachella Music Festival this year.

Beyoncé announced earlier this month that she was pregnant with twins, first stirring up rumors that she would not be able to perform. The fate of the performance has been in limbo since that day, but now Coachella has officially announced that she will instead be a headliner at the 2018 festival.

This leaves one headliner spot open for Coachella 2017… could it be Daft Punk? We’ll have to wait for an official announcement to find out.

Daft Punk Pop-Up Will Sell 100 Signed Posters, First Come First Serve

Daft Punk’s pop-up shop has been open for a week as of today, with only one day remaining in its life expectancy. Many items have been sold and many selfies have been taken, but perhaps the most intrinsically valuable items are still waiting to be given today, 2/18.

Maxfield Gallery, which has been putting on the pop-up, posted on Instagram that 100 signed and numbered posters would be available this morning at 11am PST on a first come, first served basis.

No official pricing has been confirmed, but rumors are hovering around $1,000. Given the prices of everything else in the pop-up, that estimate isn’t unlikely. Hopefully you have nothing to do on this Saturday morning, because you’re going to want to get over to the pop-up now.

Yet Another Daft Punk Toy Line is Coming… Yay

Just a few days after performing with The Weeknd during this year’s Grammy ceremony, and running a pop-up shop full of exclusive (and expensive) memorabilia and merchandise, you’d expect Daft Punk to take a breather. Think again. While they’re still tight-lipped on a new tour or new music, the French house superstars are once again delving into the merchandise world. This time? More toys!

Prepare your wallets, Daft Punk are once again receiving another toy line, this time from Japanese toy company Medicom Toy. END Clothing‘s Instagram account posted a teaser of the toy line, showcasing a figure of Daft Punk member Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo in his Human After All-era get-up flashing a peace sign with his fingers. The figure’s finger flexibility suggests the toy line will be the latest of those very posable Japanese action figures, a spiritual successor to the previous Bandai Tamashii Nations action figure line and a direct sequel to Medicom’s previous model figures of the duo. Those figures retailed for $250, so we’d expect another high price tag for these new figures.

It’s a bit questionable why Daft Punk is partnering for yet another toy line, but given the popularity of their pop-up shop with items ranging between $90-$20,000, the demand is clearly there. We’re still anxiously awaiting a new tour from Daft Punk, but for now we’ll have to settle with even more action figures… we guess.

Check out the teaser of the new Daft Punk action figures below:
